“Our mission was to peel back layers of modern alterations to reveal and restore its original character.”

In the bustling center of Leiden, we embarked on the meticulous restoration of a historic building dating back to around 1650. Our mission was to peel back layers of modern alterations to reveal and restore its original character. By removing unnecessary additions like lowered ceilings and laminate flooring, we uncovered stunning old wooden beams and broad, authentic wooden floorboards that speak volumes of its heritage.

During the restoration, we made a fascinating discovery—original color schemes hidden within the structure. We meticulously revived these hues, such as the ochre yellow found on the wooden beams in the bedroom, blending them with the building's historical essence. The façade, too, has been carefully freed from improper cement work, restoring its subdued yet dignified allure.

Inside, we've infused the space with vibrant colors that resonate with the lively urban environment of Leiden. Every element, from bespoke cabinetry and timber framing to the intricate profiling of doors and windows, was crafted by our hands. Even the painting and the installation of a new bathroom were undertaken personally, ensuring that nothing was untouched by our dedication to craftsmanship.

This project not only celebrates the building’s historical significance but also showcases our commitment to preserving and enhancing architectural beauty through thoughtful, personalized restoration.
